The Food and Agriculture Organization’s (FAO) Codex Alimentarius Executive Committee aims to protect consumer health. It reviews issues related to antibiotic use in livestock, pesticide application on crops, and the introduction of food additives. The data used by Codex comes from assessment organizations, whether mandated by FAO and WHO or not.
In late November, Codex members designated Morocco as the coordinator for the African continent within the Executive Committee. This move aimed to enhance the credibility of the Kingdom’s food security policy and its ability to represent Africa.
During the sessions, representatives from the National Office for Food Safety (ONSSA) will represent Morocco.
Codex issues only recommendations, but these are frequently used by states in developing national guidelines.
