Brazil, a country located in the Amazon, has a very large forest cover. Indeed, it includes most of the Amazon rainforest, with a surface area of 60%. However, this encourages unreasonable practices, including intensive agriculture and poaching of wildlife. Hence the importance of focusing on agroforestry.
This practice makes it possible to make better use of resources, since it generally brings together crops and livestock on the same plot. This induces a great diversity of fauna and flora, but also increases agricultural yields, while preserving the health of livestock. To this end, the Brazilian government recently set up an initiative to triple the area dedicated to agroforestry. The mission of this initiative is to create partnerships with non-governmental organizations, research institutions and private companies to develop innovative solutions adapted to local specificities.
To this end, the country’s strategy is to encourage agroforestry practices through various financing, training and technical assistance programs.
