Comprendre les enjeux de l'agriculture

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Programme alimentaire mondial (PAM) will collaborate on demining agricultural lands in Ukraine.

They will leverage the expertise of the Swiss Foundation for Mine Action (FSD) to provide small-scale farmers with the opportunity to resume their activities safely.

The beneficiaries are subsistence farms and landholders with plots under 300 hectares. Their identification will be facilitated through satellite imagery.

Due to the conflict, farmers have been unable to access inputs and other resources, resulting in a 37% decrease in cereal and oilseed production in 2022.

The initiative aims to halt the abandonment of cultivated lands and facilitate the resumption of agri-food production, with accompanying support such as the provision of inputs or financial assistance.

The implementation of the project is contingent on securing the necessary funding for operations. To date, the organizations have only raised 10% of the required amount, with a remaining shortfall of $90 million.
