Comprendre les enjeux de l'agriculture

The United States is looking for new markets for its agricultural products (soybeans, corn, wheat) because of the decrease in purchases by China, once a major customer. Brooke Rollins, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, is leading a global campaign to promote U.S. agricultural exports, with visits to the United Kingdom, Italy, Japan, Vietnam and India. China has cut orders for U.S. soybeans, corn and wheat, turning to suppliers such as Brazil and Argentina. Despite market losses due to Trump’s trade policies, U.S. farmers are showing growing optimism about future exports. Recent agreements include commitments by Vietnam to buy more U.S. agricultural products and a trade framework with the U.K. for products like ethanol and beef. The U.S. government remains focused on opening new global markets despite ongoing uncertainties in trade relations, particularly with China. A strategy to reduce the use of hazardous pesticides could be implemented in the United States, including glyphosate, to attract new customers.
