Europe is stepping up its efforts to strengthen the climate resilience of its agriculture by launching an ambitious new project. This project, funded by the European Union, aims to promote and develop technological solutions and sustainable agricultural practices to help farmers cope with the challenges posed by extreme weather conditions. The aim is to ensure long-term food security while reducing the ecological footprint of agricultural activities on the continent.
The project focuses on the integration of advanced technologies, such as smart irrigation systems, accurate weather forecasting, as well as the introduction of more drought-tolerant varieties. In collaboration with research institutes, governments and local farmers, it plans to test and deploy these innovations in several European regions that are particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change. In 2023, agricultural yield losses due to extreme weather in Europe increased by 15%, highlighting the urgency of sustainable solutions. The project is also a key part of the European Commission’s climate strategy to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
