Comprendre les enjeux de l'agriculture

The Ministers of Agriculture from France and Italy have announced the creation of a joint expertise hub to combat the spread of African Swine Fever (ASF) epidemic.

This dedicated hub will be responsible for managing information related to the epidemic, coordinating surveillance and preventive or corrective actions, as well as identifying research needs.

While no transmission to humans has been detected, the epidemic is devastating livestock and depriving many farmers of their income.

Moreover, pork meat represents a significant protein source, accounting for about one-third of global meat consumption. Such an epidemic directly threatens food security.

The risk also extends to biodiversity when the epidemic affects wild boar populations, disrupting the local ecosystem.
