Comprendre les enjeux de l'agriculture

The country has just unveiled a vertical farm consisting of around twenty floors of crops operated by robots and controlled by artificial intelligence.

The promise? Reduced water and surface consumption, with ten harvests per year according to the project’s initiator, the Institute of Urban Agriculture of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (IUA-CAAS).

For example, the facility will be capable of producing a salad in less than 40 days. The crops will be exposed to LED lighting and nourished by artificial intelligence that will determine the light and nutrient needs for each type of crop.

Actions will be implemented automatically according to 1300 modeled scenarios to accelerate the growth of approximately 70 types of crops. According to researchers, plants harvested using this method show no differences compared to those grown in open fields.

This innovative project is a response to the increasing global demand for food, facing conventional agriculture that has reached its productivity limit.
