At COP 25, the FAO presented its report on arid land worldwide established from satellite data. Two interesting figures emerged, which suggest a less “catastrophic” vision of aridity:
- The surface area of arid land amounts to 6.1 billion hectares, i.e. 41% of land surface area. This figure includes 1.1 billion hectares of forest, i.e. 18% of arid land.
- Some regions considered arid are made up of grassy savannah or rain-fed crops.
