The parade for the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army in Washington was marked by the presence of robot dogs walking on four mechanical legs without human assistance. As one commentator noted, this technology does not eliminate humans from certain military tasks. It simply allows them to control the robot from a safer location.
Researchers at the University of Illinois presented a similar robot dog at a field day in Champaign in 2024. However, he was programmed to perform tasks related to livestock and pasture management on the farm. Similarly, California-based Farm-ng’s modular Amiga robot is ready to perform basic production tasks in the fields of small and medium-sized farms. As with the military versions, autonomous agricultural robots must always be guided by humans. Farm-ng has just made this task easier by introducing major updates to its embedded software. Improvements include streamlining the interface between the grower and the robot, automated tool control in agricultural areas, and improving accuracy in hands-free navigation mode. Farm-ng has also added a new task management feature to simplify operations and increase efficiency in the field. It would seem that a person with minimal technical experience can cultivate with the Amiga. Visit farm-ng.com.
