In an interview with Le Figaro on March 21, Congolese entrepreneur and farmer George Arthur Forrest said that Africa, with its fertile land, abundant labor force and favorable climate, has the potential to feed the world. However, structural obstacles such as corruption, lack of infrastructure and investment hinder its agricultural independence. It calls for agricultural modernization, public-private partnerships, and local resource processing to reduce poverty and achieve food self-sufficiency by 2050. The modernization of agriculture, its mechanization and structural reforms are essential to achieve the continent’s food sovereignty. The rural exodus and the imbalances in public policies are holding back agricultural development in Africa. George Arthur Forrest is investing in agriculture through his GoCongo project to combat food insecurity in the DRC and serve as a model for other African countries.
