Every year, the city of Cape Town in South Africa rewards innovative startups in the field of green economy.
This year, the two startups BAOM Eco Solutions and BioAge (Biological Agricultural Era) won the green pitch, a competition organized by Green Cape in partnership with investors Invest Cape Town and Business Hub.
The first startup offers compostable biofilms as an alternative to plastic films, while the second offers an organic fertilizer called “Nitro-Gro.”
The jury included representatives from financial institutions such as:
• Edge Growth, a South African SME development specialist;
• WWF, represented by the South African branch of the World Wide Fund for Nature;
• Untapped Global, an American investment fund;
• GOF, a fund for ecological results;
• The Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA).
The winners receive approximately $4,000 in support for their business development.
