- The African Union’s ten-year strategy for increasing agribusiness production (2025-2036), often referred to as Agenda 2063, aims to transform agriculture in Africa into a dynamic and productive sector and increase production by 45%. The strategy focuses on reducing post-harvest losses, tripling intra-African trade in agricultural products, and increasing the share of locally processed products in agricultural GDP.
- Productivity and Resilience Initiatives: The African Development Bank (AfDB) continues to support initiatives such as Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZs) and the African Emergency Food Production Facility to improve competitiveness and productivity while building resilience to food shocks.
- Declaration and political commitments: The Dakar Declaration on Food Sovereignty and Resilience saw 34 African Heads of State commit to increasing domestic financing for agriculture.
- Investments and partnerships: Agritech investments in Africa show a slight recovery from the 2022 peak. International partnerships such as the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) to reduce livestock emissions are underway.
