Organic food sales reached a record $50.1 in 2019, up 4.6% from the previous year, according to the Organic Trade Association (OTA). Organic continued its momentum in 2020. Confined, consumers sought to eat healthier. Sales of organic products increased by more than 20% in the spring of 2020. Consumption of organic milk, traditionally lagging behind, increased at an unprecedented rate. According to the OTA, all major commodity categories – including dairy products, eggs, bread, pasta, rice, cereals and bakery products such as flour and yeast – are expected to grow strongly in 2020, provided that supply can keep pace with demand.
